We want to encourage a wide range of entries from all corners of the entertainment sector and allow the AUREA jury to select winners in five general categories: Creative, Experience, Impact, Innovation & Interaction.

AUREA not only provides a benchmark for excellence, it offers leaders in the field a forum to gather, exchange ideas and connect many elements of the industry.

New award for innovative media productions

In cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy, this year for the first time three winning projects get the opportunity to present their project to the AUREA participants.

On 23 January 2021, the AUREA expert jury announced the winners of the AUREA 2021 Awards.


„Feelbelt 2.0“ - Feelbelt

Feelbelt GmbH is a media tech start-up from Potsdam Babelsberg and was founded in 2019. Feelbelt makes sound perceptible: all frequencies in the range from 1 to 20,000 Hz are converted into haptic feedback and transmitted to the body through pulse generators. In this way, a new dimension of perception is integrated into the entertainment experience: the sense of touch. Production takes place at local partners in Berlin and Brandenburg. For every Feelbelt sold, the company plants an oak tree.

„Rebuilt from Memories“ - Arthelps

ARTHELPS is an initiative of creative people and artists that helps in a very special way, namely with art. For ARTHELPS creativity is the most important tool, the engine and the universal language. As a non-profit art initiative, ARTHELPS can not only reach people themselves, but also build bridges between different social classes.

Nine years of war in Syria has destroyed places of culture, economy and faith and left a whole society devastated. Considered lost, they are still alive in people’s memories. The idea: a virtual 360 ° restoration of people’s pre-war memories using Instagram photos.

There are rebuilt three damaged environments in Aleppo as VR views, created as a collective memory via photogrammetry and machine learning. It involved mining thousands of Instagram posts via geotag variations in English, Arabic, and French. A pipeline rescaled and re-sorted the dataset via deep learning and used it for photogrammetry.


„Dr. Crumb‘s School for Disobedient Pets“ - Adventure Lab

Adventure Lab is building the platform for the future of live entertainment. We connect audiences with live hosted, interactive adventures that can be experienced from tablet, desktop, or VR. We are creating a new gig economy marketplace for performers - enabling them to market and operate magical adventures from anywhere in the world. Our development partners will create the experiences our hosts bring to life. Our digital platform is both the box office and the cloud based venue; a global 24/7 digital entertainment hub.

Adventure Lab was founded by creative innovation leaders, magic makers, and veterans of Pixar, Google, Facebook, and Oculus Story Studio.


„Burning Man 2020 in VR“ - Big Rock Creative

BRCvr, a recognized Universe of the Burning Man Multiverse and home to a virtual version of Black Rock City, is inclusive of its iconic art, camps, and most importantly, its citizens. BRCvr magically captures the same spirit, culture and principles of the real-world event in an interactive VR-first expression that cultivates conversation, connection and community, with over 150 worlds visited by over 12,000 uniques in VR.

„Ice Cube Protocol“ - BackLight & Koezio Group

Forerunner in the field of indoor leisure thanks to innovative immersive experiences, the Koezioindoor leisure network decided to integrate virtual reality into its offer. Koezio is getting closer to BackLight to create what will become a collaborative adventure that can be played by up to 5 players, full of humor and for all ages: IcecubeProtocol.

„Pilgrimage“ - Fabin Rasheed

Pilgrimage is a location based collaborative augmented reality experience in which multiple 3D sculptures were located at different places all around the world. These sculptures could only be collected by going to these locations, which included the Museum of Modern Art NY, Christ the Redeemer Statue in Brazil, Louvre Paris and more. Although Pilgrimage is a permanent AR installation, the collection of the 3D sculptures saw extensive collaboration and coordination from people all over the world.

„1st Step From Earth to Moon“ - Faber-Courtial

Faber Courtial brings together a team of specialised 3D artists, graphic designers and programmers. Both founders take care of the creative development and technical advancement of the company.

Brelyon creates ultra-immersive, large-format displays in a compact form factor. Using proprietary lightfield technology, the Brelyon device renders a virtual 10-foot screen without requiring the user to wear headgear.

“Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time” - Ubisoft

The Dagger Of Time is a Virtual Reality Escape Game set in the world of Prince of Persia which enables you to experience time control. You will be able to experience something impossible in real life: to slow, stop or even rewind time!

„Art in the Metaverse“ - PhotoNOLA

The 2020 PhotoNOLA PhotoWALK presented by the New Orleans Photo Alliance and Metaculture brings the 15th annual celebration of photography in New Orleans to Virtual Reality. With a beautiful replica of the International House Hotel, PhotoNOLA's in-person home, and 17 gallery portals, the team was able to share present photography by over 40 participating artists to over 2300 viewers in one evening. The PhotoWALK serves to provide an opportunity for photographers to show and speak about their work with industry professionals and the New Orleans community in an intimate local setting. With the MetaCulture team, 70 artists and industry professionals were introduced to VR as a platform to share work. MetaCulture is a Black-owned virtual events business founded on the idea of increasing diversity in the metaspace. Currently housed on the social VR platform, Altspace, MetaCulture is positioned to change the way entertainment and art are presented and received. MetaCulture and the New Orleans Photo Alliance aim to use this platform to elevate underserved photographic voices in VR.
